Bale would be perfect buy for Ole

-

NOW it’s official, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is Manchester United’s permanent manager, the job will bring different pressures.

After getting the best out of the club’s existing players, notably Paul Pogba, it’s vital that Solskjaer (right) gets his recruitment right this summer if he is to build on all the favourable impressions of the last three months.

For a start, it’s crucial that he keeps Michael Carrick, Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna as his coaching lieutenants.

In an ideal world, I would like to see him bring in players from the Class of 92 to sustain United’s DNA through the coaching set-up.

And if Gareth Bale leaves Real Madrid this summer – there are suggestions he may not fit into returning coach Zinedine Zidane’s long-term plans – United would be his most realistic hope of a ticket back to the Premier League. Manchester City don’t need him, Tottenham can’t

afford his wages with a new stadium to pay for, Chelsea could be under a transfer ban and he probably wouldn’t go to Arsenal as a former Spurs player.

That doesn’t leave Bale with many other options in England.

But before the summer, it’s nice to take my son training with his academy age group at Carrington and see the smiles on all the staff’s faces again – from the laundry to the canteen and security personnel.

In the last days of Jose Mourinho’s reign, it wasn’t a happy place.

One of Solskjaer’s greatest achievements so far has been to restore the buzz about the club.
