Pregnant Alex: I went on One Show an hour after I learned I’d miscarried
Alex after a show this month ALEX Jones presented The One Show just an hour after learning she had suffered a miscarriage.
The TV host, 42, has a son Teddy, two, with husband Charlie Thomson, 40, and is currently seven and a half months pregnant.
But it has been a rollercoaster ride for the couple, who went through the devastation of losing an unborn child after finding out Alex was pregnant while in New Zealand in late 2017.
Weeks later an ultrasound scan revealed the terrible news that the baby had “stopped developing”.
The Welsh star said: “We learnt the baby didn’t have a heartbeat. I was around 14 weeks.
“The baby had stopped developing at about nine weeks. That was really hard. It hit us like a ton of bricks.”
She confided in her boss, who told her to take time off. But Alex insisted on going on air that night – an hour after learning the news. Alex recalled: “I said, ‘What else am I going to do?’
“It’s a horrible feeling because it is so empty. There’s nothing to say. It’s done.”
After being told she had lost the baby, Alex was desperate to find out the cause. She said: “It’s odd.
“You’re looking for answers you’re never going to get. You’re thinking, ‘Have I done something wrong?
“What did I do differently? Was it because we flew a long way? Was I too stressed?’.”
More happily, just six months later she got pregnant once more but says she “couldn’t enjoy it for a long time”.
She added: “It was completely different. You don’t let yourself relax. I didn’t tell anyone for ages.”
She plans to take an extra month maternity leave this time having felt the three and half months she took with Teddy was not long enough.
“I’d thought it would be fine beforehand, but of course, I had no idea what was coming,” she said.
“The BBC was amazing. They were clear there was no pressure to come back. It was me who was thinking I’d lose my job. It’s so mad. It’s irrational.
