A HOODED knifeman caused a “bloodbath” as he stabbed four people in the back in what is believed to be a random 14-hour spree.

Two victims, a woman of 45 and man of 23, were in critical conditions in hospital as police hunted the suspect last night.

All were attacked between 7pm on Saturday and 9.45am on Sunday in Edmonton, North London. Residents found the final victim lying face-down with a “gaping hole in his back”.

One 50-year-old local said he heard the stabbed Asian man talking on his mobile in Bengali.

He said: “I thought he was on the phone to his family or trying to get help. When police cut his clothes off there was a gaping hole in the side of his back. There was blood all around, it was like a bloodbath.”

VULNERABLE

The Met’s Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Smillie said: “Police are treating the four incidents as potentially linked.

“The victims appear to have been selected at random due to them being alone and vulnerable. He has approached from behind without warning.”

Police were hunting a skinny black man of around 6ft 3in and said “mental health issues may be a factor” in the attacks.

The first stabbing came at 7.02pm on Saturday, when the 45-year-old woman was knifed in the back on Aberdeen Road.

The second attack was at 12.15am in Park Avenue. A man was taken to hospital but his injury was not life-threatening.

The man of 23, believed to have been stabbed in Silver Street, was found at 3.55am at Seven Sisters Tube station.

The final victim was knifed on Brettenham Road at 9.43am.

One man was arrested on suspicion of GBH at 10.53am and a second man was held last night. The Met said: “Police are pursuing all lines of inquiry.”

■ Leneto Kellengbeck, 24, was stabbed to death in Solihull, West Mids, on Friday night. No arrests have been made yet.
