Gemma Collins David Walliams helps send kids to sleep with his bedtime children’s books. He is now offering the same service for adults. The BGT judge, 47, who has suffered sleep problems, narrates Sienna the Sleepy Sloth for the Calm app. “It’s very soul destroying.”

That is how Channel 4 news anchor Krishnan GuruMurthy describes the moment The Great British Bake Off host Sandi Toksvig accidentally smashes his cake in tonight’s episode.

“I don’t know whose fault it was,” he admits.

“She said it was my fault. I didn’t feel it was my fault.”

A well-intentioned Sandi offers to help Krishnan flip his cake between two cooling racks to remove the base of his cake tin.

But then disaster strikes as the tin slips through the middle and splats on to the worktop, to the horror of both of them. “Sandi got hold of the bottom and she said, ‘You get hold of the top’, explains Krishnan.

“And of course it didn’t work, because it’s very hard to stay in sync with someone else Krishnan and, inset, as they turn it over. The whole thing fell apart and collapsed, it was a disaster.”

Bake Off is no stranger to controversy. One contestant stormed out of the tent after their Baked Alaska was removed from a fridge.

And, speaking of fridges, Noel Fielding got into trouble for climbing into one – which he jokes “didn’t work out for me” in tonight’s episode.

Fortunately, Krishnan’s efforts are for the Bake Off’s Stand Up To Cancer charity specials, so he takes the mishap in good humour.

And a giggling Noel offers to keep Sandi away from him during the technical challenge.
