Labour must fix Brexit and Britain

Theresa May is under increasing pressure to end the Brexit deadlock by calling a General Election, while Jeremy Corbyn says Labour is ready for power as the latest poll put the party five points ahead of the Tories. You say...

■ It must be very humbling for Tory supporters to witness the pathetic remnants of the present Government in its last death throes. How sad that, not just the Conservatives, but the entire Westminster system, has let down this great nation and all it once stood for.

Hopefully, as politicians now try to claw back some public faith and credibility, the ball will be given back to us to select the next government.

I would like to think Jeremy Corbyn will very soon address the nation with hope, genuine sincerity and accurate facts and figures of how he will put right all the wrongs that have been done.

Come on, Jeremy, let’s get Britain working again. Show us what you’re really made of and put us back on our feet where we belong.

Reg Barrett, Southminster, Essex

■Theresa May has finally demonstrated just how little she cares about our country and its people. Indeed, the only thing she and the Tories care about is the Conservative Party and its wealthy backers. Furthermore, Boris Johnson has shown just how low his morals are when he was prepared to back May’s plan just to get rid of her. I am almost 80 and have never seen anything like the self-serving, obnoxious Tory Party since 2010. For heaven’s sake, let’s have an election now. Catherine McChleery Coventry

■ The infighting in the Conservative Party is like a pack of hyenas fighting over Theresa May’s carcass to see who feeds first.

This is our Game of Thrones, but the political wrangling has gone on long enough and the only solution is a General Election so the people can whittle out the politicians who don’t respect democracy in our country – and believe me they are plentiful. Roger Grant, Thurnscoe, South Yorks

■ Never in my life did I think this country could be brought so low by such a bunch of incompetent and self-serving backstabbers as we have in the present Tory Government.

We desperately need Labour to sort out Brexit and get on with the business of running the country, reversing the disastrous Tory policies of the past nine years.

Don’t miss this golden opportunity, Mr Corbyn.

Malcolm Lee via email ■ I thought it very brave of the Mirror to put their April Fool joke on the front page.

A lot of people might think you’re being serious, but there’s no fooling me – Jeremy Corbyn being ready for power must be the biggest joke this year.

I know Theresa May has made a mess of Brexit, but even if the Tories lose an election, they won’t have to leave a note on the desk of the new PM, saying, “Sorry there’s no money left”, as the last Labour government did. Just look at what happened to National Grid shares when it was leaked that Labour would renationalise it. It would be a disaster if they ever got into power. Ian Verdon, Watford, Herts

■ Although I want to see a Labour Government in power, I think we should let the Tories sort out the mess they have caused over Brexit before an election is held. Phillip Buchan, Luton Bedfordshire

■ The biggest April Fool’s Day joke is that Theresa May is still Prime Minister of the UK. The only thing is, nobody’s laughing.
