NEWLYWEDS Roxy and Ben Murdoch-Masila make history this weekend as the first married couple to play for a Super League club.
Warrington’s Tongan international Ben faces London Broncos while Roxy will captain the Wolves Women’s team in their Championship clash with Barrow.
They got married at the weekend, and such is Roxy’s commitment to her new club she attended the shirt presentation SIR ALASTAIR COOK insists there is no chance of him making an England encore – unless there’s an “absolute emergency”.
While England have struggled to find opening batsmen to fill his boots, Cook began the season with a 150 for Essex against Cambridge University last night in her wedding dress just hours after the ceremony.
Back-rower Ben explained: “Roxy just said, ‘I’m going now to get my shirt.’ I’ve watched some videos and it was special seeing everyone clapping her, wearing her wedding dress – it brought tears to my eyes.
“Our wedding was the best day of my life, especially having my family fly over.
“I’m the first of us boys in our family so it was quite special, and to have our daughter Acacia-Rose as flower girl too.”
Roxy, who also plays second week. But the recordbreaking opener moved to quash speculation that he may be persuaded to face the Aussies this summer.
Cook (right) said: “Look, I’ve played my last game for England.
“There’s always that one thing – if there’s an absolute emergency or something – but I’m nowhere near that row, has switched from St Helens to lead the newly-formed Wolves.
She said: “Ben didn’t mind me going to the presentation at night at all, and because I’m captain, I felt I owed it to the girls. I can’t wait to get out and play now.”
WIGAN will support forward Gabe Hamlin after confirming he has been charged with a UK antidoping violation. He has been provisionally suspended by the RFL pending the conclusion of his case.
