Peeved Poch names that tune in one

-

MAURICIO POCHETTINO was playing a familiar tune before Sunday’s game at Anfield.

You know the one. “When Jurgen Klopp arrived at Liverpool it was only about focusing on building a team that could compete and be a real contender with other teams,” he said.

“Our philosophy is completely different, we can’t compare the two projects. They are on a completely different level.”

Any neutral watching the game might disagree. There was little between the sides and Spurs could easily have won it. But they didn’t. Which is why they’re way off the title pace and a closer look at Klopp’s time in England might show why.

The German’s first game in charge of Liverpool was a goalless draw at Spurs in October 2015. James Milner was the only player out of the 18-man squad to start that game who also appeared on Sunday.

Proof that Klopp (above, with Pochettino) has overseen a quiet revolution at Anfield with deadwood being jettisoned, new blood brought in and the squad deeper and more competitive every season.

Spurs, on the other hand, had seven players who started both games three-and-a-half years apart.

Proof, if needed, that Pochettino hasn’t been operating at the same level in the transfer market and has a squad that is overused, under-competitive and crying out for depth.

His tune may sound old, but it’s pretty much pitch perfect.

IF the travelling Chelsea fans are anything to go by, Maurizio Sarri hasn’t got long left. Barely half-an-hour had gone at Cardiff on Sunday before chants of “We want Sarri out” and “Super Frank Lampard” were heard.

Roman Abramovich has a habit of being in sync with the fans when it comes to wielding the axe, but not necessarily in the choice of successor. So, if Lampard is the man they truly want, probably best not to tell Abramovich what to do. Maybe start chanting for Rafa Benitez?
