Paula Beckett. Then there is four-yearold Edwin, from his 2012 marriage to Jessica Moor. Nick fears he failed his older children and is determined not to make the same mistakes with Edwin. He says: “Probably earlier on in life I didn’t get that balance so well. I have a young son now and I make sure I find time to spend with him to hunt dragons or invade Mars.”

Nick once revealed he only got into TV “because I thought I’d make loads of money and meet attractive women” – and he wasn’t wrong.

Since his split from Jessica, he has enjoyed brief flings with Holby City actress Gemma Oaten, 33, and TOWIE’s Pascal Craymer, 30. His longest relationship outside his two marriages was with TV presenter Suzy Perry, who he dated for three years.

The money side has been more

successful. Last year he earned

£349,000 just from the BBC plus another six-figure sum for appearing on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity.

As well as DIY SOS, his quiz show Who Dares Wins is soon to start its 11th series and he is launching a new BBC daytime show Home Is Where The Art Is next week.

It challenges three artists to create artwork for people they’ve never met after snooping around their houses.

Nick has also written a film and released an album but his workaholic attitude has left regrets. He says: “It’s the most difficult thing for anybody who has a family. “You work as hard as you can to get enough money to make sure everyone is safe financially, versus missing time with the people you love and maybe missing your kids grow up.”

Since I’m a Celebrity, Nick has become close pals with Harry Redknapp and auctioned the red speedos he wore on the show for £2,500 towards the cost of a major operation for a friend’s son.

He is also proud that his flagship show DIY SOS is to celebrate its 20th anniversary by revisiting some of its most successful projects.

He says: “We’ve worked with something like 23,000 builders and built £16million-worth of homes, respite centres and places like Grenfell and the Veteran Street in Manchester.

“It’s important to make the point that DIY SOS didn’t build those places, the communities built them by coming together and making a difference.”

■ Home Is Where The Art Is airs on BBC1 every weekday at 3.45pm from next Monday.
