ROSE: I’M DONE WITH FOOTBALL
Spurs & England star counting down the days until he can stop playing a sport that fails to protect black players
DANNY ROSE has revealed he cannot wait to finish playing football because of a lack of action to protect black players.
Tottenham’s England defender has become the latest star to give a devastating vote of no
confidence in a crushing week for the sport.
“I’ve had enough,” said Rose, 28. “At the minute the way I programme myself, I just think, ‘I’ve five or six more years left in football and I can’t wait to see the back of it’.
“Seeing how things are done in the game at the minute, it’s just, ‘Whatever’, isn’t it? I just want to get out of it.”
The Premier League is in talks with the FA and the Football League to devise a strategy to combat racism in the English game.
But the discussions will not include docking points, a punishment some have argued is critical to tackling the problem.
By contrast, a string of clubs have lost points for breaching financial regulations. Some players in England are now prepared to walk off the pitch if targeted. Rose added: “I feel I‘ve five or six more years left and I just want to enjoy football as much as I can. There is so much politics and whatever in football and I just can’t wait to see the back of it, to be honest.”
Rose, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling (above) and Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi were subjected to monkey chants from a section of Montenegro fans during England’s Euro qualifier last week.
Juventus striker Moise Kean, whose parents are from the Ivory Coast, was racially abused by Cagliari fans on Tuesday night – only for the Italy international to be told by his captain Leonardo Bonucci and his manager Max Allegri the abuse was partly his fault.
