THE Scotland Yard probe into five genocide suspects could take up to five years.

When Security Minister Ben Wallace revealed the timescale yesterday, MPs were shocked.

Ex-Labour minister Stephen Twigg said there needs to be a “greater urgency” adding “three to five years is too long.”

The men, all living in the UK, are accused of taking part in the 1994 ethnic bloodbath in Rwanda in which 800,000 died.

After Rwanda’s long-running bid to get the men extradited failed, it asked Britain to investigate them. The Met has sent officers to the East African country to get documents and said it would be “protracted”.

But ex-Tory cabinet minister Andrew Mitchell insisted: “In the interests of those facing these dreadful allegations, as well as for the reputation of SHOCK The Mirror yesterday British justice, we should surely expect these five to be on trial by the end of this year.”

Dr Vincent Brown, 59, Celestin Ugirashebuja, 66, Emmanuel Nteziryayo, Charles Munyanezeza, 61 and Celestin Mutabzruka, 63, maintain their innocence. Mr Mutabzruka, living in Kent, said: “I’ve nothing to hide.”

Between 2006 and 2017 they were granted £2million in legal aid. In 2017 the High Court blocked extradition over fears they would not get a fair trial. With current superstar Neymar Pele at airport after flight back from Paris

FOOTBALL legend Pele was mobbed by fans in Brazil after having emergency surgery.

The star, 78, was treated in Paris last week but flew back to Sao Paulo yesterday.

He was surrounded at Guarulhos airport before being driven away in a waiting car.

Pele was in France for a promotional event when he suffered a “severe urinary infection”.

Brazil striker Neymar Junior, 27, visited the three-time World Cup winner in hospital.

He posted a photograph online of them grinning as Pele lay in bed, captioned: “King”.
