Saving child led to first-aid success

-

Dear BIZ

I’m a former police officer and I experienced a lot of first-aid emergencies during my time on the force.

When a friend’s daughter began to choke on a cookie, as an advanced first-aider, I stepped in to remove the blockage.

I realised then that first-aid training wasn’t something being offered to parents.

I decided to set up Daisy First Aid, offering two-hour courses in people’s homes or at local venues, designed for parents and child carers to help them feel confident and comfortable in emergency situations.

In four years, I have managed to grow the business and have now franchised it.

I’m looking to raise more awareness of the business to encourage more people to take on franchises. Any ideas to help me do this? Jenni Dunman, by email

The ideal places to help spread the word about your business and target those who may be keen to get involved include parenting and women’s magazines, and those aimed at small businesses and budding entrepreneurs, health and family. Look at small business sections in newspapers, and target toddler and nursery groups, as well as schools. Also, investigate franchise exhibitions where firms like yours can promote a business idea to those interested in taking on a franchise.

Check out the British Franchise Association’s website at thebfa.org for details on events it’s holding across the UK.

There’s also whichfranchise.com, which helps people search for franchise opportunities and has lots of information on the industry.
