Patrol car romp officers guilty of misconduct

-

TWO police officers who had sex in a patrol car while on duty were found guilty of gross misconduct yesterday.

Former Chief Insp Rob Leet, 44, had a secret 18-month fling with married traffic officer Sgt Sarah Porter, 38.

The pair pulled into lay-bys and had sex after making up false appointments as an excuse to meet each other.

They exchanged a series of “graphic” emails and texts during the fling, which took place between 2015 and 2017.

Dad-of-four Leet also met up with a former victim of domestic violence for sex while he was on duty. He was suspended from his £60,000-a-year role as area commander after the 2017 allegations.

Leet quit his post with Sussex Police a month before the disciplinary hearing after 22 years’ service.

A panel in Lewes, East Sussex, found him guilty in his absence of four charges of gross misconduct after two days of evidence. His wife attended the two-day hearing but refused to comment.

Sgt Porter, who denied their relationship was sexual, was convicted of two charges of gross misconduct. She sobbed as panel chair Victoria Goodfellow said she would be dismissed without notice, ending an 18-year career.

She said: “Your actions were intentional, deliberate and planned. They were for your own sexual gratification.”

The hearing was told she has a daughter with her former husband, who is also a police officer. Ms Goodfellow said Leet will be placed on a list preventing him from serving as an officer again.

Sussex Police Asst Chief Constable Nick May said the pair had “let down the people of Sussex and their colleagues”.
