The US agency wants the billionaire’s aerospace firm help with the firstever attempt to deflect an asteroid by crashing into it.

In scenes similar to the 1998 Bruce Willis movie, the Double Asteroid Redirection Test aims to divert objects that threaten to hit the Earth’s atmosphere.

The mission is due to launch by a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California in 2021.

The following year it will try to hit a 540ft moonlet travelling at 13,500mph.

Nasa said: “It will change the moonlet’s speed in orbit enough to be measured by Earth telescopes.” Jessica was found hanged in bedroom A GIRL of 12 who wrote “RIP” on her heel before hanging herself had struggled with social media pressure, a coroner said yesterday. said: “These contained a hand-drawn picture of someone being hanged.”

Unpleasant messages between her and her friends were found on her iPad, along with a group photo, in which one of the faces had been scratched out.

The inquest heard her friends knew she had self-harmed, but did not tell her family or teachers at Penketh High School in Warrington, Cheshire.

An alleged bullying incident was reported to police but no action was taken.

Her friends told officers she “gave as good as she got”.

She lived with her father, who told the hearing in Warrington he was unaware she was depressed or self-harming.

Wendy Walsh, a pastoral adviser at the school, said: “Jessica was worried about his emotional health.”

Senior coroner for Cheshire Mr Moore said a letter the schoolgirl posted online listing six reasons to take her life was “highly significant”, calling it “heart-breaking”. Verdict: Suicide.
