Labour’s also split over EU deadlock

-

■ Kevin Maguire is spot on when he says Jeremy Corbyn should support a People’s Vote (Mirror, April 15).

Corbyn needs to get out to Labour’s Brexit voters and ask two obvious questions – then we might yet get this nonsense stopped.

Firstly, ask them what they have in common with super-rich Brexiteers who cut wages and take their money, businesses and jobs abroad?

Secondly, what control have they ever had that they can “take back”?

The Tory Brexiteers will do that by cutting wages and rights when they don’t have EU restrictions and employment safeguards.

■ Kevin Maguire says that most Tory voters support Brexit and most Labour voters support Remain.

This ignores the point that many traditional Labour voters no longer count as Labour because they are cheesed off with Remain-supporting Labour MPs blocking the people’s vote to leave the EU.

Jeremy Corbyn is right to stop Remainers taking over the party.

■ Brexit has highlighted the EU’s failings to the world, so I say let’s take advantage of this by revoking Article 50 and electing some diligent MEPs to help force change.

How can Britain be taken seriously when we send idiots like Farage to Brussels? Second-best politicians will no longer be tolerated.

If nothing else, Brexit has done some good by exposing our political failings. But how long the wounds take to heal is another matter. Noel Beresford Chesterfield, Derbys

■ Frankly, I’m getting fed up with columnists such as Kevin Maguire saying they want a People’s Vote (Mirror, Apr 15).

We had one – and Leave won. I’m a Labour supporter, as are many in towns in South Yorkshire, and we voted Out with full knowledge of what it meant.

If it wasn’t for a weak Tory PM and Labour’s petty selfishness, we would have been gone by now. The will of the people, including the majority of Labour voters in the North, should be honoured. John Nally, Conisbrough South Yorks

■ Like Doreen Mundy (Your Voice, Apr 12), I too was given five-star treatment in an NHS hospital, thanks a truly gifted non-British surgeon to whom I owe everything I now enjoy in life. So I can’t entertain any support at all for this Brexit stupidity. Mrs May needs to stand up to the contemptible ERG wreckers and perhaps she can then find a way through all of her political conundrums.

■ Parliament can’t reach an agreement on Brexit because more MPs want to remain in the EU than leave.

The idea of a People’s Vote is a joke – if Article 50 is revoked, it’s two fingers up to democracy in Britain.

I’ve been a lifelong Labour voter, but the behaviour of MPs on both sides is a disgrace, so it’s pointless voting in the future.
