Gloating Trump mocks critics despite not being cleared over Russia claims
DONALD Trump celebrated the release of Robert Mueller’s Russia report yesterday with a Game of Thrones-themed tweet.
The US President, 72, posted a meme in the style of the fantasy TV series, with him in the fog, with the words: “No collusion. No obstruction. For the haters and the radical left Democrats... Game over.”
But his boast was at odds with the 448-page report into potential Russian collusion in the 2016 US elections, which did not clear him of obstructing justice.
Instead it concluded that Congress could continue investigating Trump and could still find him guilty of the offence. It said: “If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would state so.
“Based on the facts and applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment.
“Accordingly, while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”
The report told how in May 2017, after learning Mueller had been appointed to lead the probe, Trump said: “This is terrible. This is the end of my Presidency. I’m f ****** .’”
The Game of Thrones rip-off didn’t go down too well with programme makers HBO. They asked the President to “cease using their intellectual property” Trump chipper
which they would rather not see used for political purposes.” However, an unrepentant Trump said: “I’m having a good day.” His meme came after Attorney General William Barr announced the findings of the report in a press conference before Congress or the public had seen it. During his 22-month investigation, Mueller issued 2,800 subpoenas and convicted, indicted or got guilty pleas from 34 people.
