US nanny’s going too far, Meghan

-

■ Meghan has already put space between herself and the rest of the royals by moving away and expecting the taxpayer to foot the bill for the renovations to her new home. She’s even breaking with the royal tradition of where her child will be born.

If she wants an independent life away from royalty, she should lose all the perks being a royal brings.

Her actions are very insulting, not only to the Royal Family but also to the British taxpayers. If she doesn’t understand protocol, maybe Harry should explain it to her.

■ I applaud the Duchess of Sussex’s reported decision to hire a American nanny for her baby. This Duchess is like a breath of fresh air for this country and the Establishment. An American outlook would provide a balance in the child’s life. There’s nothing wrong with British nannies, who are no doubt very professional and do a great job. But we can’t ignore that recently, as Brexit has shown, we have become rather insular and narrow-minded – so a broader outlook and influence in the young child’s life is perhaps needed.

■ The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at liberty to have who they like to look after their child, but why is does Meghan want an American to bring up an English royal? It appears she intends to keep her links to the USA, as well as wanting her own way. Our Royal Family has managed for hundreds of years without an American film star interfering. It’s time a higher member of the Royal Family advised Prince Harry on protocol.

■ Meghan’s reported decision to employ an American nanny and her willingness, shock horror, to consider a man for the role, will no doubt upset a few traditionalists, but I say good for her. This is the 21st century and it’s time the royals were brought up to date. Meghan and Harry want what they think is the best for their child and aren’t afraid to go against stuffy traditions to get it. I wish them the best of luck.

■ I agree with S Slater (Your Voice, Apr 16), that Harry has changed since he met Meghan and not for the better. He had matured into a great Prince but now it appears he’s having to do what Meghan says and is losing some of his sparkle and down-to-earth personality.

We all care about him and just hope he’s not hurt in the future.

Elaine Norris, Bushey, Herts

■ What a cheek that Meghan apparently wants an American nanny. What’s the matter with British nannies? Why bring someone from abroad when there are fully qualified people here who could do the job.

■ Meghan’s decision says a lot about what she thinks of British workers. If she wants a US nanny she should go and live in America. Doesn’t she understand British values? Alan Bryan
