like we played – it’s usually pretty positive.

“They are massive games, such an interesting period and so positive. We are really enjoying it. It’s good that you are involved in two competitions. It’s a sign of success.

“Now, it’s about how you mix your potential with attitude. We obviously have good players, and mix it with a world-class attitude. We did that from the first day of the season and so far it worked out – we are difficult to play against!”

Klopp knows with Cardiff fighting for their Premier League lives on their home ground, it will be even more about attitude than ever. Yet everything he sees on the training ground makes him believe in his team (Gini Wijnaldum, below).

Asked if they are more hungry than ever as they get closer to a trophy, he replied: “Is more than 100 per cent possible? No. It is always like this.”

For Liverpool to win the title, they must win all their games and hope Manchester City falter.

After their rivals crashed out of the Champions League, many assume that disadvantages Liverpool, who have the semi-final squeezed between their last two Premier League games. But far from feeling drained by the intensity of it, Klopp is adamant the adrenaline will inspire his side: “All football players are physically skilled. Their bodies respond well to training,” he said.

“If you go for a big goal, you don’t feel anything. It’s like a marathon. And if you are up front after 40 kilometres, you don’t think about the 40 kilometres in your legs, you think about the two kilometres to come. That’s how we feel.

“Our opponent is Man City. Not easy. In Europe we play Barcelona. There are not a lot of stronger teams in the world out there. But we are in it. If you are in it, you can win it.

“Fighting to get into the Champions League is real pressure because it changes a lot if you are in or not. Fighting for the league is much more positive. But now is not the time for talk, it is time for work and sweat.”

Klopp has a full squad to choose from for the run-in, with Dejan Lovren declared fit after illness.
