George’s weight soared PEDIGREE Chum? No, Britain’s fattest dog grew his pedigree tum by eating all the pies.

George the Alaskan malamute – nicknamed Georgie Porgie – weighs a whopping 11st after piling on the puppy fat on his junk food diet.

His owners could not afford to feed him properly and it is claimed he would wolf down food including pasties and pies flung over the fence for him by neighbours.

He was rescued from his home in mid-Devon by the RSPCA who handed him over to Gables Farm Dogs and Cats home in Plymouth, which has helped two dogs previously named as the country’s paunchiest pooches.

Hattie the Fatty and Bopper the Whopper weighed in at 8st and 9st respectively when they arrived at Gables Farm. They lost 4st 2lbs between them and Hattie was recently rehomed.

But George is bigger than both of them – in fact he is so huge he could not squeeze into their kennels and is having to stay with Gables deputy manager Ruth Rickard.

Now he has been put on a strict diet and exercise regime with the aim of shedding 5st 4lbs – half his body weight. Once he has reached that he will be put up for adoption.

Ruth said: “Each time we have an obese animal come into our care we think it’s the biggest we will ever see, and then along comes an even fatter one. “It’s just heartbreaking because it’s so easy to prevent. But we’ll build on our previous success and get him slimmed down.” The charity has set up a Justgiving fundraising campaign to help cover George’s vet bills, estimated at over £800, including payments for lowcalorie dog food and pain relief drugs.
