A MODEL died in a catwalk collapse after apparently tripping on his shoelaces during a fashion show.

The hundreds-strong crowd initially thought Tales Soares’ tumble was just part of an act and were horrified when paramedics rushed to the stage.

The 26-year-old was seen foaming at the mouth and struggling for air while the team tried to help him.

He was then put on a stretcher and taken to hospital, where he later died.

Witnesses said Soares tripped on the fastenings of his oversized shoes while making an abrupt turn as he reached the top of the catwalk. Footage of the horror that emerged on social media appeared to confirm the claims.

Soares, who was signed to agency Base MGT, was modelling in a show for brand Ocksa on Saturday as part of Sao Paulo Fashion Week in his native Brazil.

The cause of his death has yet to be confirmed. Event organisers said in a statement: “Sao Paulo Fashion Week has just received the news of the death of model Tales Soares, who suddenly took ill during the Ocksa show.

“We offer our sincere condolences to Tales’ family. Together with MGT Base agency, we are providing all the necessary assistance in this sad moment.”

The organisers later put out another message: “May God welcome you with open arms. Life is definitely a catwalk, we’re just passing through.”

Ocksa said it was “shocked” by the death, adding: “The whole team of Ocksa deeply regrets and is appalled by the news of the passing of the model Tales.

“Our sincere condolences to the family of Tales and the friends of the Base agency. We ask for our friends’ prayers and good energies in this moment of extreme pain.”
