A BUSINESS owner has been told that there is “insufficient evidence” to prosecute two burglars who raided his premises, despite him having crystal-clear CCTV footage.

The alleged crooks were filmed using a crowbar to crack open a window to gain access to David White’s salon.

He handed over the CCTV footage, along with photos and forensic evidence, to police, who arrested two suspects.

But after giving a file to the Crown Prosecution Service, officers were told the pair will not be prosecuted. David, who runs Whites Hair & Beauty in Glenfield, Leicester, received a “no further action” notice last week, and is now appealing the decision with the CPS.

He said: “We have CCTV, we have photos and we have blood. What else do they need? Things like this affect people’s lives and make them feel down.”

David said he installed new security cameras at his business a few weeks before the incident last June, after an unrelated break-in at the premises.

Leicestershire Police confirmed that DAVID WHITE ON EVIDENCE THAT HE GAVE TO POLICE

two suspects were interviewed after officers watched the CCTV footage.

The force said: “A file was submitted to the CPS for a charging decision and they made the decision there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.

“The suspects were released with no further action. The victim has been updated on this decision and informed the investigation has been filed pending any new information which may assist our enquiries further.” The Crown Prosecution Service said that a senior lawyer is now reviewing the charging decision.

A spokesman for the CPS added: “It would be inappropriate to provide any further detail at this stage.”

Footage of the break-in, which David handed over to police, shows a suspect using what appears to be a crowbar to prise open a side window to gain access to the premises.

A man is then seen scrambling through the open window and entering the property.
