He strode, beaming, towards the waiting cameras, hands clasped in front of his chest as if trying to stop his heart from bursting.
This was the moment he had dreamed of for so long – telling the world he was finally a father.
And Prince Harry’s face was a picture of happiness as he confirmed that Meghan had given birth to a son who was “absolutely to die for”.
It brought a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye of the millions of people who have supported Prince Harry since his mother Diana’s death and followed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s fairytale love story.
Because this young couple, both scarred by their own parents’ break-ups, now have a perfect family of their own.
They have ensured ever after.
When Meghan and Harry met in July 2016 their shared desire to have children was a key relationship spark.
They were clearly deeply attracted to each other and shared the same drive to work for humanitarian and environmental causes.
But divorced actress Meghan was already 35 and keen to settle down and start a family.
And Harry had made no secret of his desperation to be a dad.
In an interview in 2012, he told American journalist Katie Couric: “I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young.
“And so, I’m waiting to find the right person, someone who’s willing to take on the job.”
He had been incredibly close to mum, Diana, and witnessed his parents’ relationship imploding.
So Harry knew the mother of his own children would need to be someone special.
