LUIS SUAREZ has apologised to Liverpool fans after sparking uproar with his behaviour in the Nou Camp.
And the former Anfield icon has vowed that he will not celebrate if he scores tonight at the stadium he graced for three years.
The controversial Uruguayan (above) caused huge offence among the Reds support that once idolised him when he tried to get Liverpool players sent off in the first leg last week.
But he vowed to be on his best behaviour on Merseyside this evening.
“I have all the respect in the world for Liverpool fans,” Suarez said.
“Because I scored and celebrated with my fans I say sorry but the Liverpool fans would applaud me.
“I am very thankful to Liverpool, to the fans and the club, and obviously if I score at Anfield I won’t celebrate it.” Liverpool fans were more annoyed with his attempts to get Kop stars red-carded.
He still believes, though, he will get a good reception in the second leg.
“The people know the work I did here,” he said.
“It’s special for me to come back – I am grateful for my time here, the way they received me as a player. I have only lovely memories of my time here and how special it is.
“But now I have a different motivation. I am playing for a place in the final – that is enough to motivate everyone, and that is how we must be.
“We have to be conscious that they have an added extra here. The fans are a 12th man and they almost create an extra player given how much they get behind the team with their enthusiasm. We have to be aware of that.”
