Meg’s feud with her dad means he may never meet grandson

- BY CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN US Editor in Rosarito, Mexico

LONG before the royal baby was born, the bathwater had already been thrown out by Thomas Markle and his daughter Meghan.

So severe is their ongoing feud, observers now wonder if the new royal will ever get to meet his American grandfather.

Following the discovery that Thomas had colluded with the paparazzi to cash in on his daughter’s wedding last May, tensions between the royals and the retired television lighting director have increased.

The stress of exposure led to Thomas having a heart attack, which forced him to call off his plans to walk Meghan down the aisle.

She was publicly supportive of him at the time but relations between them have crumbled.

Since then he has publicly aired his grievances during several interviews while also revealing the personal opinions of his son-in-law.

ALARMING

Thomas blindsided the couple when he appeared on ITV’s breakfast show Good Morning Britain, revealing Prince Harry told him Donald Trump “ought to be given a chance” and that he was “open to the experiment of Brexit”.

He also said “Meghan would be nothing” without him, claiming: “I made her the duchess she is. Everything Meghan is, I made her.”

He added: “Perhaps it would be easier for Meghan if I died.”

But his most alarming move was when he betrayed Meghan by revealing a highly personal letter his daughter had sent him begging him to stop talking. She wrote: “Dad, I’m so heartbroken. I love you. I have one father.

“Please stop victimising me through the media so we can repair our relationship.”

The move by Thomas came in response to five “close, unnamed friends” of the Duchess speaking out on her behalf and attacking him.

He appealed directly to the Queen last Christmas to step in to heal the rift with Meghan.

Thomas said: “I would appreciate anything she (the Queen) can do. I would think she would want to resolve the family problems.

“All families, royal or otherwise, should be together – certainly around the holidays.”

But yesterday, while Meghan’s mum Doria was by her side for the newborn’s arrival, her father cast a solidarity figure, not knowing if he will ever get a chance to meet his grandson.
