Prince William on his brother’s new arrival

William, 36, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled and obviously looking forward to seeing them in the next few days when things have quietened down.

“I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep deprivatio­n society – that is parenting, so I’ll be looking forward to that…

“I wish them all the best and I hope the next few days they can settle down and enjoy having a newborn in the family and all the joys that come with it.”

Kate, 37, who this year admitted she would like a fourth child, beamed as she talked about the new arrival. But she also warned that the first few weeks parenthood “are a bit daunting”.

She added during the royal engagement: “It’s a great time of year to have a baby and spring is in the air so it’s really great.” Getting even more excited, she said: “We’re looking forward to meeting him and finding out what his name’s going to be. It’s exciting for both of them and we wish them all the best.”

Baby Sussex is due to be unveiled to the world today in a photocall near the family home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, berks.

It is also expected that Harry, 34, and wife Meghan, 37, will reveal the baby’s name – if they have made a decision.

Charles was on a Brexit-inspired charm offensive in Germany yesterday as he talked about his joy. He said: “We couldn’t be more delighted at the news and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return.”

Meeting the public in Berlin, the Prince of Wales, 70, was congratula­ted numerous times about having another grandchild. Replying to one well-wisher, Charles said: “Thank you, I’m collecting a rather large number of them.”

One man then went to offer the prince a crown made of material, and said: “Here, have the German Crown.”
