Mark Solomons, 56, a Spurs season ticket holder since 1982, said: “I’ve been going to Spurs for nearly 50 years so I’ve been waiting a bloody long time for this.

“I’ll be spitting blood if I miss out because what should be my seat is occupied by some fatcat sponsor who has never queued for a bag of chips in Tottenham High Road.”

Liverpool fan Darren Wells, 30, agreed, saying: “How the hell can UEFA justify such a pathetic allocation to the two clubs? It’s always the real fans that go every week that miss out.” Non-stop scheduled flights to Madrid are now costing more than £1,300 return.

And private aviation specialist Air Charter Service said it had been flooded with requests from groups of friends ready to break the bank, hiring anything from six-seater jets to Boeing 737s.

Andy Christie, from the firm, said: “We are seeing huge demand for aircraft to get desperate fans to the final.”

Others are booking indirect flights while some are planning to drive more than 1,000 miles to Madrid.

But they may struggle to sleep if they get there, as the price of hotel rooms for June 1 have shot up.

In Liverpool, the Grand Central Hall – which claims to have one of the biggest screens outside of Wembley – plans to show the match with tickets priced between £11.25 and £16.58.

ITV had hoped to secure Europa League rights but was frustrated when UEFA bundled it in with the Champions League.
