..AND KLOPP WARNS GUTTED REDS MUST BE ‘PERFECT’ TO CATCH THEM

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

JURGEN KLOPP hailed Liverpool’s record-breaking season – but warned they will have to be near perfect to beat Manchester City.

Liverpool finished runners-up to City despite amassing 97 points – the highest total in their history – and Klopp says they must be even better next season to dethrone the Blues.

“First of all I have to say congratulations to City,” said the Anfield boss. “They played an incredible season, we did too. As long as City are around with the quality

they have, and the financial power, it’s not like any other team will pass them easily.

“That’s clear. So we need to be very close to perfection to win the Premier League. But we have made unbelievably big steps and I really expect there’s more to come.”

Sadio Mane scored twice against Wolves to finish with 22 Premier League goals and share the Golden Boot with Kop team-mate Mo Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while Reds keeper Alisson won the Golden Glove for his 21st clean sheet. “Twenty-one clean sheets is impressive,” Klopp said. “Trent (AlexanderArnold) smashed all stats for assists for full-backs, Robbo (Andy Robertson) was close too, and we had two of the top goalscorers. All my players.

“So if I were to start telling you all the positive things about this team, we would sit here until an hour before the Champions League final.

“This team is pretty special and one of the best to have played for Liverpool.”

Wolves finished seventh with the most points for a promoted side since 2001 and boss Nuno Espirito Santo praised his side.

“We’re very proud of what we have achieved in the Premier League,” said the Wolves boss.
