Robbo: I’ll win fight to be fit for final

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

ANDY ROBERTSON has vowed to be fit for the Champions League Final.

The Liverpool defender went off at half-time in the semi-final win over Barcelona with a calf injury after being kicked by Luis Suarez in an off-the-ball incident.

He played the final Premier League game of the season although not fully recovered and was replaced as soon as victory against Wolves seemed assured.

With a two-week break before the final, Robertson said: “I could feel it during the game – it wasn’t the best against Wolves but I wanted to play and was desperate to get out there.

“The adrenaline kept me going, and the fact a lot of us have played through pain, not just me.

“Luckily now we’ve a couple of weeks to recover and get our bodies right – and we’ll know we’ll be as fresh as we can be going into the final.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp looks set to have a near perfect bill of health for that showdown with Spurs after Roberto Firmino insisted he will be ready. Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk are all carrying knocks, but are expected to play.

Naby Keita is the one serious doubt after an adductor injury ruled him out of the end of the season. He is unlikely to make the final, although will try everything to be available.

Midfielder Gini Wijnaldum believes the Reds deserve silverware after such a pulsating campaign where they finished a point behind champions Manchester City.

“It would be really sad if we finish the season without a title, especially because we were so consistent this season and did so well,” he said. “It has been a wonderful season, but now the challenge is to finish with a trophy to make it complete.”
