Ben Cohen’s ex-wife, Abby, has urged Strictly bosses to raise welfare standards for contestants’ families.
Former England rugby star Ben was hit by the show’s curse when he left Abby and fell for dance partner Kristina Rihanoff.
And after Stacey Dooley split from her boyfriend and started dating dancer Kevin Clifton, Abby said she felt “there could be some improvement” in how the show cares for stars’ loved ones. Describing the “shock” and “heartache” of her “really horrible divorce”, Abby, who has two 11-year-old girls with Ben, admits she hit “rock bottom” following their 2014 split. But she insists: “It’s not a tragedy story – it’s a story of recovery. “I’ve put all my energy into my girls, who come first, and my job. I can give myself a pat on the back,
as well as my friends and family who have supported me through a really rubbish past five years.
“I don’t think I’m ever going to get over it. But I’m taking a new path.”
Abby is helping to give makeovers to singles looking for love on new show The Updaters, featuring Ant McPartlin’s ex-wife, makeup artist Lisa Armstrong, among an expert team.
Abby, who was reduced to tears by one divorcee’s story, adds: “People are brave to admit they’re having problems finding love. I have experienced that. It’s close to my heart.”
