MAVERICK’S ON TRACK

MAVERICK VINALES took charge at Le Mans yesterday, posting the quickest lap ahead of tomorrow’s French MotoGP.

The Spaniard was two tenths of a second quicker than championship leader Marc Marquez in 1min 31.428sec.

Local hero, rookie Fabio Quartararo, ended the day third.

“This is a track I really like and I think we can be at least on the podium,” said Viñales (right), who won here two years ago.

“I don’t know if it masks the weakness of the bike but I know I always feel really good at this track. I can always give a little bit more here. This is a track where I can be back at the top.”

Britain’s Cal Crutchlow faces a battle through first qualifying today to land a good grid spot.
