A BOY of 16 has been rushed to hospital after being shot.

Emergency services were called in the early hours yesterday.

The lad had a gunshot wound in his leg.

Officers are probing the shooting in the Spital Hill area of Sheffield.

Det Chief Insp Mark Oughton, of South Yorks police, said: “Our investigation is in the early stages.”

The teenager’s condition was described yesterday as serious but stable. MORE than half of Britain’s homes now use smart devices, research shows.

The organisers of Smart Home Week, which starts today, found that 57% of UK properties use wireless, web-activated technology.

This control lights, security and domestic items such as kettles or the TV.

Expert Jason Bradbury said: “Smart-tech is no longer for gadget lovers.

“Homeowners realise that technical updates are making homes cheaper and more efficient to run.” Passerby strokes Pongo Paula with pal on shoulder A NURSE who battled anxiety and depression for a decade has been cured after getting a pet skunk.

Paula Bavill, 46, can now attend crowded events such as Comic-Con thanks to Pongo, whose scent glands were removed at an early age.

She said: “When Pongo is there, all the attention is on him, and being able to stroke him takes my mind away.”

Paula, of Wakefield, West Yorks, bought Pongo two years ago but had no idea of the effect he would have.

She also has five-year-old Wilfred, but he does not like crowds and noise.

Despite their reputation for being smelly, skunks make good pets. Paula’s have litter trays and roam the house.

Research has found that “panic pets” can treat depressive symptoms. SKUNKS live for up to 10 years and can weigh 18lb. They are stubborn and headstrong but friendly and playful. Their reputation for smelliness likely comes from cartoon skunk Pepe Le Pew, left, and his offensive odour. They need to be vaccinated. Pongo on lead in the park
