Chancer Farage is out for himself

-

■ With all the furore over the milkshake incident, as we vote in the EU elections let’s not forget what Nigel Farage stands for.

He wants to privatise the NHS, he’s a supporter of Trump and the other right-wing leaders in Europe, he abandoned UKIP when they became unelectable and he’ll do the same with the Brexit Party.

The man is a hypocrite of the first order – he opposes any connection with the EU but happily takes the Judas shilling in MEP allowances.

I recall during the campaign for the 2016 referendum, he said he’d back a second vote if Remain won by a narrow majority.

He’s part of a right-wing movement that espouses nationalism as the way forward, but history tells me that a similar thing happened in 1930s’ Germany. Keith Bowman, Bolsover, Derbys

■ If Labour and Tory MPs had any respect for democracy we’d have left the EU by now and Nigel Farage would be history. It’s only the failure of our current parliament which has generated the need for his return.

I voted Remain but I’m totally disgusted with the contempt politicians have shown for the will of the people, and now can’t wait to leave. Bob Rust Chesterfield, Derbys

■ A vote for the Brexit Party in this European election is worse than stupid. It will simply irritate our friends in Europe if we send awkward and disruptive people there, even on a temporary basis. Damaging our future relations with other countries is not smart. It would be wiser not to vote at all.

We need to be seen as intelligent neighbours, not childish fools.

Clive Osman, Nuneaton, Warks

■ Two things we can all agree on. The division the referendum revealed was more significant than the decision it delivered, and referendums undermine the ability of parliament to govern.

I concede that individual MPs in the big parties have integrity, but those parties themselves do not since they have disintegrated. So let’s use our Euro votes to back the smaller in-or-out parties as a Brexit re-run.

We might not need another referendum after that – the writing will be on the wall. Kevin Grant, Swindon, Wilts

■ I’ll not be voting in the European elections. What is the point? Labour has fielded all Remain candidates, but I believe a second referendum would be an absolute disaster for the party and allow the likes of Farage and other snake-oil salesmen to capitalise and gain political ground. Steven McNamara Middlesbrough

■ I can’t understand all this support for Nigel Farage. He is a complete chancer who, if he ever came to power, would do his best to dismantle the NHS, workers’ rights and benefits for the disabled and needy. The only thing Farage cares about is himself and his pursuit of power and wealth. Be wary about supporting him. Arthur Poole Macclesfield, Cheshire

■ I voted Leave in the referendum, but I won’t be supporting that charlatan Farage at the EU elections – and any working-class Labour voter who does so is betraying all that the party stands for.
