Cowley is on Albion wish list
WEST BROM are stepping up their interest in Danny Cowley with their No.1 choice as new manager, Chris Hughton, taking a break following his sacking by Brighton.
The Baggies want to replace caretaker James Shan with a more experienced boss – the next appointment will be their fourth in just over a year – after losing in the Championship play-offs.
Hughton was top of their list, but is understood to have made time away from the game for a family holiday a priority.
Albion have now turned their sights on Lincoln City’s Cowley, with other candidates including former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic (above) and Northern Ireland’s Michael O’Neill.
Cowley, and his brother and assistant Nicky, have taken the Imps from the National League to League One in three seasons.
They won League Two this term, having been promoted back to the Football League in 2017.
With Cowley having three years left on his contract at Sincil Bank, West Brom would need to pay Lincoln £500,000 compensation.
And it appears the Imps will not let him go without a fight.
A club statement read: “The accolades for our management team have been thoroughly deserved and it is understandable if they attract the attention of clubs at a higher level.
“However we have had no official approach from any club to speak with Danny and Nicky.
“The board talk regularly with Danny and Nicky who remain totally committed and focused on preparations for next season in our new adventure in League One.”
