Daughter ‘strangled teen and cut unborn baby from her body’

There have been 25 cases worldwide of so-called fetal abduction, which is kidnapping a child from a pregnant woman through a crude caesarean section. It is also know as womb raiding. Four mothers and 13 babies have survived the shocking crime. Predominately committed in the US, it is almost always done by women.The first recorded case was in Philadelphia in November 1974.
Winifred Ransom, 36, hacked and shot to death pregnant Margaret Sweeney. Ransom was acquitted on the grounds of insanity. Three cases have been reported outside America with two carried out within six months of each other in South Africa in 2013.
Today, the baby boy remains in hospital hooked tubes. He has since been up to cradled in the arms of his father, Yovany Lopez, after whom he has been named Yovani Yadiel. But doctors fear it may not be just his wife he will be grieving for.
Doctors say the boy is brain dead, although the family have hope.
Marlen’s devastated father, Arnulfo Ochoa, said: “When we touch him, he reacts. The baby is getting better. My faith in God keeps me going.
“We want him to know we love him. He is a miracle of God.”
Arnulfo spoke out as the medical centre caring for his grandson faces questions about why medics did not think it was suspicious when Clarisa arrived. Detectives did not learn until May 7 of the link between Clarisa and Marlen when a friend of the teen told of their Facebook messages.
Today as Figueroa, her daughter and Bobak remain in jail, the relatives of Marlen will gather for her funeral. Grieving Yovany said: “We’re gonna have justice with those responsible. They don’t know the pain they’ve caused. They don’t know.”
