Take my advice and do nothing. The decking would have been pressure treated with wood preservati­ves before it left the factory. Just wash it down every couple of months with warm soapy water and a stiff bristle brush – you’ll be fine.

QWe have painted our kitchen wall and, after it’s dried out, we have what looks like water running down some areas. What can we do? Glenn Lewis, by email

Try a stain block like Zinsser B-I-N aerosol on the affected area and recoat it. It costs about £10 a can.
