INVISIBLE MAN

- BY JAMES NURSEY

vChampionship Play-Off final, Monday, 3pm

TYRONE MINGS will step out at Wembley on Monday aiming to be ‘invisible’ – on the advice of John Terry.

The centre-back (above) has excelled for Villa, helping them storm up the Championship into the play-off final after a January loan from Bournemouth.

The star benefits from regular pep talks from Villa assistant boss and Chelsea legend Terry (below), a former defender himself. They regularly work together at Villa’s Bodymoor training ground then chat over a coffee.

It has been invaluable for Villa and Mings as he rebuilds his reputation after making just 17 Premier League appearances for the Cherries due to injuries. Mings, 26, said: “John is a fantastic centre-back who a lot of people would put in their all-time Premier League XI.

“When there was a chance I could come here and learn from someone like that – in my position – it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“We sit down after games and go through clips and work out on the training pitch together, so he’s been a big help in improving my positioning and decision-making.

“He can’t obviously help during the game, so any little tips or hints he can give me on what he would have done, or what previous managers have taught him, is invaluable.

“We’ve sat down many times and his overriding comments to me are, ‘Go through the game without being seen’.

“He tells me that a lot. As much as you want to help the team, as a centreback your job is to go under the radar and keep the ball out of the net.”
