Mystery after Brit personal trainer found in the Bahamas
THE death of a British personal trainer in the Bahamas has puzzled police on the paradise island.
Dannie Lea’s body was discovered in the front yard of a house in the capital Nassau when a security guard investigated why the front door was open.
Last night police said they were still investigating but said the case was “not being treated as a homicide”.
The cause of death is not yet known and no arrests have been made.
An image of 29-year-old Dannie’s body – found wearing only shorts – was circulating on social media and his former lover, who wished to be anonymous, said it was “horrendous”. She added:
“He was a kind and gentlenatured man.”
Dannie, who was also an oil engineer, from Stokeon-Trent, Staffs, and father to a boy of 11, is believed to have been working in Nassau. It is understood he ran a health supplements shop and served two-anda-half years in jail for dealing cocaine before moving to the Bahamas.
His body was found on May 19 by a security guard who had called a relative of the homeowner, who was away, to alert them to its open door. The relative, who spoke anonymously, went to look with the guard. They said: “When we arrived the front door was open.
“It looked like there was a break-in, like someone came through the kitchen window. But it didn’t look like anything was stolen. Then as I was exiting out the front door the security guard noticed the body just lying in the front yard.
“I had walked past him a couple of times actually without noticing. I can’t understand the correlation between the break-in and the body.”
Family and friends paid tribute to Dannie.
Kim Freeman said: “Rest in paradise, Dannie. You will be missed by so many.”
And Kirsty-Ann Williams added: “RIP Dannie. We had many years of memories that will never be forgotten.”
The Royal Bahamas Police Force said a postmortem was scheduled and “investigations are ongoing”.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “Our staff are supporting the family of a British man following his death in The Bahamas and are in contact with the Bahamian authorities.” FITNESS FAN Dannie flexes Nassau is a top hol spot A BRIT broke a Guinness World Record by spinning a cushion on his finger for 18 minutes, 14 seconds.
Dan Spencer, 33, from Peacehaven, East Sussex, smashed the previous record by three minutes.
He said: “I started doing it when I was about 10 years old. I feel proud.”
