STAY AND MAKE SPURS GREAT

Defender Davies hopes Poch gets backing to take club to next level

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has been urged to stay at Tottenham and take them to the next level.

Spurs defender Ben Davies is desperate for Pochettino (right) not to carry out his threat to walk away from the beaten Champions League finalists.

And he believes the future is bright – if the Tottenham boss gets the assurances he is seeking in talks with chairman Daniel Levy that money will be spent.

Davies (right) said: “He’s been amazing for us. He’s put the building blocks in place to put us where we’ve been, in the Champions League.

“The way we’ve played, and the attitude and belief we have got in the squad, is all down to him. As a group of players, we really hope he stays because he is the one to take us to the next level.”

Pochettino and Levy are set for discussions about how much Spurs can afford to spend in the transfer market.

The north Londoners did not sign a single player in the last two transfer windows but are targeting several new players this time around.

We need to be proud of what we have done this year and use these experiences to spur us on

Tottenham are closing in on Real Betis and Argentina midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and also have Lyon’s France international Tanguy Ndombele on their radar. They are also interested in Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, Leicester’s James Maddison and Uruguay star Maxi Gomez at Celta Vigo. Pochettino wants Spurs to commit to a big long-term project. With the futures of Christian Eriksen, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld still up in the air, it could be a summer of massive change at Tottenham.

Whoever comes and goes on the playing front, Davies insists next season could end up being just as exciting as this one for the fans.

The Wales defender said: “If some new faces come in, it’ll be a similar atmosphere where the boys who have been here a while have to kick on and show the experience we’ve gained.

“It’s going to be exciting, we need to be proud of what we’ve done this year and use the experiences to spur us on.”
