GONORRHOEA infections are at their highest level in more than 40 years.

A total of 56,259 cases were reported last year, up 26% from 2017 and the most since 1978, say Public Health England figures.

Cases of syphilis rose 5% to 7,541, up from 2,847 diagnoses 10 years ago.

Dr Gwenda Hughes, head of STI surveillance at PHE, said: “The rise in sexually transmitted infections is concerning.

“If you have sex with a new or casual partner, use condoms and get tested.” Stars Lea, Ana & Daniel AN explosion on the set of the new James Bond film scared The Living Daylights out of the crew. The blast left huge holes in the walls of the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios, Bucks, and damaged the roof yesterday. Wall panels came down in what bosses called a “controlled explosion”. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service refused to give any details but appliances remained at the scene last night. The blast is thought to have occurred when a fireball rehearsal went wrong. One worker suffered a minor injury after reportedly being hit by debris.

People working on the studio grounds said that they knew nothing about what happened. A message on the official James Bond Twitter account said: “During the filming of a controlled explosion on the set today, damage was caused to the exterior of the 007 stage.

“There were no injuries on set. One crew member outside sustained a minor injury.”

The incident was the latest setback to 007’s 25th big screen outing. Daniel Craig had minor surgery last month after an accident while shooting in Jamaica and needed two weeks off.

The 51-year-old, making his fifth and final appearance as the superspy, stars alongside Lea Seydoux, 33, and Ana de Armas, 31 – with Oscar-winner Rami Malek, 38, as the villain.
