A TOP immigration official has been given an honour – despite his role in the Windrush scandal.

Glyn Williams, served as the Home Office’s head of migration policy between August 2010 and 2013 when the “hostile environment” was developed. He becomes a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Then Home Secretary, Theresa May, said in 2012 her aim “was to create in Britain a really hostile environment for illegal migration”.

Last year, Mr Williams sat alongside then Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, while she was grilled by

SORRY Sara Thornton Glyn Williams, right, had role in Windrush scandal targets. Ms Rudd resigned after “inadvertently” misleading them. At least 83 members of the Windrush generation were wrongly deported back to the Caribbean. Stephen Doughty, Labour MP, said: “It will be galling to victims of the Windrush scandal and other messups in the Home Office over the past decade to see officials who oversaw these scandals rewarded handsomely.”

Thames Valley Police Chief Con, Sara Thornton, 56 has been made a Dame. She was forced to apologise after the force failed to help up to 373 children who were groomed and sexually abused in Oxford.

Some of Mrs May’s political cronies were awarded gongs. This is despite the Prime Minister slamming her predecessor, David Cameron, after his chums got honours when he resigned.

Catherine Page, who was a private secretary to Mrs May, is handed an OBE for public service.

The Chair of the Wates Group developers, James Wates, receives an OBE for services to business and charity. The company gave £450,000 to the Tories.

A Government spokesman said: “This latest list recognises over 1,000 people for their service from all walks of life and all backgrounds.”
