BOSS READY TO SHUFFLE PACK

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Guimaraes

ENGLAND boss Gareth Southgate will ring the changes for tomorrow’s third place play-off with Switzerland.

It is the game that nobody really wants but is happening because the associations voted for it as they wanted a second game in the Nations League rather than a friendly.

Southgate feels he will need to make wholesale changes to reward players for reporting for duty and to look at some new faces.

He may also bring back the Champions League players who did not start against Holland. Southgate said: “We have to see who can go, and there are a couple of injuries, certainly a few with cramp, and we have to try to freshen it, and that’s our best chance of getting a result is to freshen it as much as possible. We have to give everything. We have thousands of fans here, and we owe them that we give absolutely everything.

“The mentality of the group is we do that right the way through. It is no use complaining about it.”

Marcus Rashford (below) was injured against Holland and looks set to miss out while Jordan Henderson (right, with Southgate) may start having only been on the bench on Thursday.

But Southgate defended his decision not to pick Liverpool’s Champions League winning captain even though England missed his experience.

Southgate added: “He was tight in his hamstring, didn’t think he would be available, and did a session this week where he felt more confident in it.

“He hadn’t done any training with us the whole week, so it was impossible.

“It was a bonus to have him, we thought hopefully get him into the game for 20 minutes, then that ended up being the extra time as well.”
