AMANDA Knox has made a bizarre joke about how tough she finds returning to Italy for the first time since she was cleared of murdering British student Meredith Kercher.

The American, convicted of the 21-year-old’s killing but acquitted after serving four years’ jail, posted a snap of herself clinging to a precipice in a spoof of “Hang on in there” posters.

She said: “3 Days till I return to Italy for the first time since leaving prison.

“Feeling frayed, so I made my own inspirational workplace poster. ‘Hang in there!’ Just imagine I’m a kitten.”

And as she set off from Seattle on Tuesday, she posted a picture of herself with fiance Christopher Robinson, adding: “Here we go... Wish us ‘Buon viaggio!’”

Knox, 31, was due to arrive in Italy yesterday and is scheduled to join an event at the Criminal Justice Festival.

She will visit Milan before heading to Modena but is not expected to visit Perugia, where Meredith was murdered. Meredith was killed in 2007 Knox previously sparked fury after saying she would like to visit to help her healing. She said: “The only way I’m going to come full circle is by physically, literally, coming full circle.” Meredith was found with her throat cut in November 2007 in the house she shared with Knox. Known as Foxy Knoxy, she was convicted with thenboyfriend Raffaele Sollecito of murder but freed on appeal. Her conviction was quashed in 2015. Rudy Guede, of Perugia, was found guilty of the murder in 2008. Kercher family lawyer Francesco Maresca said Knox would not be welcome in Perugia. He said: “I believe Knox’s choice to return is totally inopportune because the death of Meredith was very painful for Perugia and people there feel they have never had a satisfactory response from the Italian justice system. “That is why Knox should think about her life without continuing to return to this sad affair from which she has been the only one to profit, both in terms of fame and money.” NEW LIFE Cosy snap Knox posted with fiance Robinson A THIEF smashed a medieval stained glass window in a church, causing £10,000 of damage, then fled with just £40.

The window of Anglican St Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury, Shrops, dates back to the early 1500s.

Robert Milton, local community officer for the Churches Conservation Trust, said: “I was so angry.

“The window, based on a Renaissance painting, is of real importance.

“We already have an extremely large repair bill.”
