Hallam Hope and Christie Elliott struck for Carlisle after Hunt and Daniel Powell had got Crewe off to a flier.

Chris Porter’s strike and a Gethin Jones own goal settled it for Alex.

Hunt has four goals in 20 seasons. Boss Dave Artell said: “In training, he’s always effective in front of goal.”

Dapo Afolayan, Jimmy Knowles (penalty) and David Wheater (own goal) also scored for the Stags. Tom Hamer replied for battered Oldham, who had both Tomas Egert and Filipe Morais sent off.

Afolayan said: “We probably would have run the score up anyway.”

REECE GREGO-COX revealed a half-time rant by boss Gabriele Cioffi inspired a comeback win.

Colchester led at the break through Luke Prosser’s header, but Grego-Cox levelled, before Mason Bloomfield nodded home the winner.

Striker Grego-Cox said: “The gaffer came in at half time very angry.

“There was a lot of shouting and a lot of throwing things about.”

ADAM ROONEY is looking forward to netting more goals from Craig Conway crosses.

The pair combined in the 77th minute to down the stubborn U’s.
