SO BORED STIFF KLOPP HITS OUT

-

FROM BACK PAGE are playing against Liverpool, they think both teams are trying – they are not really trying,” said Klopp, in reference to the hosts’ defensive display. “The quality? We are the one team. When United play us, everybody is on their toes.” The Liverpool boss criticised a ‘poor’ refereeing decision which allowed Rashford’s opening goal to stand, despite what looked a foul on Divock Origi in the build-up. That ultimately gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team a point and ended Liverpool’s 100 per cent Premier League record this season.

VAR also ruled out a goal by Sadio Mane for handball – with Klopp visibly agitated when speaking to the fourth official on the touchline. But the German seemed more concern by United’s approach.

He insisted he had “no

criticism” of Solskjaer but, when asked whether he was frustrated by such a defensive mindset, Klopp said: “It is just a fact when we come here, last year, this year, the year before, they just defend.”

Solskjaer said: “We set the team up to attack and be aggressive and create chances and we did that.”

Klopp wants there needs to be another look at VAR, after what he claimed was a mistake from referee Martin Atkinson, whom he believes allowed the foul on Origi because he thought it could be reviewed.

“VAR is not the problem, the referee is,” said Klopp.

“They see it but don’t give it because they have VAR. But VAR won’t overturn it because it’s not a ‘clear and obvious mistake’. ”

Klopp was accused of sour grapes by Jose Mourinho, who said: “It’s because he never beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“I think he didn’t like the menu. He likes meat and he got fish.”
