STATS YOUR LOT...

- LEICESTER BURNLEY BY DAVE ARMITAGE 2 1

Vardy Wood Tielemans

JONNY EVANS reckons he is a whole lot faster than Burnley boss Sean Dyche gives him credit for. of the death of former owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Dyche (below left with City boss Brendan Rodgers) was stunned saying Evans would need to be the fastest footballer on the planet. But though the Northern Irishman has a few miles on the clock, he insists it was a good call.

“I felt I’d been tripped,” said the 31-yearold. “I felt I was going to be able to take another step and clear the ball.

“Obviously you never know how it’s going to appear on the screen. I appealed straight to the referee at the time. So I think for VAR to overturn a decision like that, they would have to feel it was pretty much nailed on a correct call.” Wood had a different version of events, saying: “It’s a goal. Yes, there is a little accidental clip. But my eyes are looking at the ball.

“I don’t break stride and by the time the clip happens, the ball’s basically on the line, if not in. There’s no way of him clearing it.” Burnley supporters might do well to remember that baiting Jamie Vardy is like sticking your fingers in a shark tank. How many times have we seen the brilliant Foxes striker peel away snarling with one hand cupping his ear after answering taunts with the only currency he knows – goals. From the minute Clarets’ fans decided it might be a good idea to hammer Vardy over his wife’s online feud with Coleen Rooney, you just sensed the shark swirling in the water.

Burnley were leading thanks to Wood’s cracking 26thminute header when travelling fans decided to dip their fingers into the water.

Snap! Right on half-time Vardy pounced, somehow leaping above Ben Mee from a standing start and heading home the equaliser.

His delight was there for all to see as he fixed his stare in the direction of the away end with a ‘have that’ snarl on his face.

Youri Tielemans then put the hosts ahead but Burnley thought they had levelled – until VAR ruled otherwise. Since Rodgers’ first Prem game in charge of Leicester on March 3rd, Jamie Vardy has scored 15 league goals – two more than any other player.

Six of Dwight McNeill’s eight Prem assists have been provided for Chris Wood, with all goals coming during 2019.
