A HORRIFIED mum has told of how children were “dropping like flies” as a sickness bug hit at least 40 people at a holiday park yesterday.

The victims included at least 30 kids and the woman, who did not want to be named, said she knew of at least two families with youngsters in or going to hospital.

She also claimed Mullion Holiday Park, near Helston in Cornwall was refusing refunds after the bug ravaged the site amid the half-term getaway.

And she said her own family was stuck there as they did not want to go home and spread the virus.

Another mum, Vickie Evans, said: “So far it’s just one of my children down with it. She’s never been so poorly. We are just about to try to get some answers from the reception as it’s ruined our holiday.”

One dad said: “All five of us have been up all night with vomiting, diarrhoea and getting dehydrated. The health authorities have been brilliant and have taken our daughter to hospital for observation.” Another mum added: “My daughter is poorly, it isn’t food poisoning because she didn’t eat there.”

The park said it was investigating the cause and working to limit the spread of any virus, believed to have originated off-site. A spokesman said: “We contacted Public Health England and are co-operating to look after our guests and limit the spread of any virus. We have strict food hygiene standards. “From our initial conversations with Public Health England, the most likely explanation is the illness was brought to the park.”

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed: “We were called at around 10.25am about an incident in a caravan.”
