POTTER IS LEFT SPELLBOUND BY CREATOR GROSS
PASCAL GROSS is making sure Brighton are riding high in one Premier League table.
The Albion midfielder is ranked fourth when it comes to chances created – with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne battling it out for top spot.
And Seagulls boss Graham Potter believes it shows why the German playmaker is crucial to his side’s hopes of staying clear of trouble in the one table that matters.
Gross underlined his value to Potter’s side last weekend when he struck his first goal of the season in the 3-2 victory over Everton.
Potter wants more of the same as Brighton seek a third successive home win when Norwich visit today.
And the manager said: “The hardest thing is to score goals so, anybody who can help you do that, is going to be important. I could see his qualities before, but it’s only when you work with players that you get a better understanding of them.
“Pascal is a really intelligent guy, as a footballer and a man. He’s got the ability to get in the right position at the right time to play the pass.”
Gross reckons Albion’s revamped forward line has increased the options available in front of him.
Last season, Chris Hughton’s side relied heavily on veteran Glenn Murray – but the arrival of £20million Neal Maupay and emergence of Aaron Connolly has given the attack a different look.
Gross said: “Neal, Aaron and Glenn are all different, but you can see they are dangerous.
“We have a target man, who can score from halfchances, and quick strikers, who can stretch the defence and make quick runs in behind. It’s good to have everything.”
