FARKE KNOWS TODAY IS NO DUMMY RUN

- BY CHRIS McKENNA

DANIEL FARKE has backed his Norwich baby-boomers to rattle Brighton’s cage.

Kenny McLean became dad to daughter Marcy on Thursday while Onel Hernandez was still anxiously waiting for his partner to give birth in hospital.

Canaries boss Farke (right) hopes his players will be just as productive at the Amex Stadium today.

He said: “If we can gain more points than children this week, then I’ll be absolutely happy. We still hope Onel can be available. I was tempted to send an injured player to the hospital instead, but he didn’t accept this.

“It’s even more important to gain a few points now – we’re still greedy and highly motivated.”

ALEX Oxlade-Chamberlain sat on the Liverpool team bus and soaked up the celebration of their Champions League success in June.

Having recovered sufficiently from a horror knee injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain took his place on the bench for the final in Madrid against Tottenham but didn’t get to kick a ball. And while he enjoyed the party, it mainly served to make him even more desperate to play a part in more Reds success.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder knows how special being part of the first Liverpool side to win a league title in 30 years would be. But he wants to feel he really has helped the Reds to a trophy after missing most of last season while on the comeback trail from injury.

That desire to contribute fully is what is firing the 26-year-old’s determination to rediscover his best form after an honest assessment of “there is more to come”.

“When your team is doing well you want to be a part of that,” said Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of his side’s visit to Aston Villa today.

“It’s not every day you get to be part of a squad like this one now that we are serious title contenders, and one that won a Champions League last season.

“You want to be a part of that, desperately. That’s something that keeps driving me forward and I feel like I can add a bit extra to us as well when I’m fit and firing at my best.

“I feel I can bring another dimension to the team to help us a little bit more from time to time. That’s my aim. I’m desperate to be a part of something similar to what we achieved last season and the league is the target, of course, as well as retaining the Champions League. “The league is something we have fallen short on for a number of years now and we were very close last year, so I hope that this year we can go that one step further.

“It would be special, for sure.” Oxlade-Chamberlain had just found his place in Liverpool’s team as they hurtled towards the Champions League final in 2018.
