KING’S REDS REVENGE

-

JOSHUA KING ended Manchester United’s brief revival and admitted he loves scoring against the club where he could not get a chance.

The Norwegian’s winner was his second goal for Bournemouth against the Reds in the last four years and ended their run of three away wins.

“For me it’s a bit extra special,” said King. “Because you score against your former club, your former team-mates some of them and your former manager for the ressies, Ole.”

King spent four years in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reserves at Old Trafford, but made just one appearance for the senior team, in a League Cup tie.

“I didn’t know Ole before I went to United, but I still speak to him when I see him because he was my manager for two years.”.

King quit for Blackburn in 2013 after failing to get a game ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen. He joined Bournemouth two years later.

He added: “I made my debut at 17 but the United team back then was magnificent. I believed I could be a squad player, but had a lot of injuries.

“I don’t want to use that as an excuse but it pushed me back every time.

“I said to myself, ‘I don’t feel I’m getting a chance here, I need to move on, to focus on me and to provide for my family’.

“That’s what I did and today I’m playing Premier League football at a high level for the fifth year in a row.

“It was hard to leave. It was the biggest club in the world at that moment with their history and with Sir Alex Ferguson. Sir Alex used to give games to some of the young boys a game. I never felt I got that chance.”
