Surridge promises goals if Swans trust him

spot for his first league goal of the season nine minutes later.

Defender Chey Dunkley was fouled by Mike van der Hoorn, and Moore powered his spot-kick into the bottom left corner.

Surridge won it at the death with a clinical header from Connor Roberts’ inch-perfect cross.

“It was a brilliant feeling to come on and score the winner,” beamed Surridge.

“We knew Wigan would be tough to beat because they’d not lost many at home, but I don’t want to say it’s a smash and grab.

“It wasn’t our best performance, but the lads never gave up. That’s the sign of a good team.”

Wigan were chasing a fifth home win of the season and created enough chances to silence the Swans. But striker Jamal Lowe skimmed the bar with a thunderbolt shot and Dunkley thumped a header narrowly over.

However, there was heartache for Paul Cook’s men with a minute remaining as Surridge netted his third league goal of the season to give the battling Welshmen their first win at Wigan since May 2013.

Marksman Moore was understandably shell-shocked and admitted: “We can’t be shipping goals like that, but we’ve got a close dressing room and we need to start pulling together and getting results.

“We’ve been playing really well, but keep conceding late goals.

“I’m really thankful to finally get off the mark – but we’ve got to stop that rot and grind results out.”

A view echoed by defender Dunkley, who reflected: “That was heartbreaking, it’s been the story of our season. We fell on the wrong side of the sword. We have to dust ourselves down and go again.” WIGAN:
