A HAPPY Prince Charles was far from prickly after being introduced to a hedgehog while launching a festival.

Chuckling as he met the spiky symbol of Ross-on-Wye, the Prince of Wales was given a taste of local ale and lit a torch to celebrate the Gilpin 2020 Festival in the Herefordshire town.

The event marks the 250th anniversary of artist William Gilpin touring of the Wye Valley in 1770.

Hillside Brewery owner Paul Williamson said after the Prince tried his Over The Hill ale: “He said it had a good body. He seemed to enjoy it.”

Prince Charles enjoys a glass of ale THE Queen has asked for any new outfits made for her to be fur-free but will still wear older pieces in her wardrobe.

The monarch’s dresser and personal adviser Angela Kelly said the 93-year-old informed staff earlier this year that she would only wear fake fur on new outfits.

Despite past criticism, Her Majesty wore a favourite large brown fur coat at the 2015 Sandringham Christmas Day service.

But animal welfare campaigners last night welcomed the news.

Wendy Higgins of Humane Society International said: “We hope that Her Majesty’s move to fake fur will lead her to want to show existing furs as museum pieces, as history is where the fur trade belongs.”

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: “We are not suggesting that The Queen will never wear fur again.”

■ PRINCE William will visit Kuwait and Oman in December to carry on his “lifelong project” of seeking peace in the Middle East.

Last year The Duke of Cambridge was the first royal to go to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories on official business. The Queen wore fur for Xmas
